Meet Crystal, our Contact Centre Coordinator and 211 Information and Referral Specialist. In 2024, Crystal celebrated a very exciting milestone: 15 years at DCC!
We sat down with Crystal to talk about her experience at DCC, watch the video below to learn more.
Crystal’s journey with Distress Centre started in a personal way. During a tough time in her life, she found support and resources through DCC. A few years later, while studying psychology, her professor suggested she volunteer here to gain experience. That suggestion changed her life.
“I’m so glad he did because it changed everything for me,” Crystal said.
What Crystal loves most about working at Distress Centre is the sense of community: “We really do come together as a team,” she shared. As a Contact Centre Supervisor, one of Crystal’s main jobs is to supervise and support our volunteers. Anyone who volunteers at Distress Centre receives ongoing support from the Contact Centre Coordinators. They can provide guidance, direction and feedback. It is the Contact Centre Coordinator who decides if a call requires emergency services.
Crystal says she finds joy in helping volunteers grow their skills and feel confident in their roles. “It’s so rewarding to give back to the community this way,” she said. “Helping others support people on the lines truly fills me up.”
Outside of her work at Distress Centre, Crystal is a relationship therapist. She uses her extensive knowledge and expertise to empower her clients and help them build stronger connections. She also creates Instagram content to share valuable insights and advice with her followers, further extending her positive impact.
Crystal’s dedication and kindness make her an invaluable part of Distress Centre Calgary. Thank you, Crystal, for everything you do to make a difference every day!
