Meet Stacey, one of our passionate and dedicated board members at Distress Centre Calgary!
Stacey’s journey with DCC began two years ago when he was inspired by the impact our staff and volunteers make every day. He knew he wanted to contribute in his own way by supporting the organization through a fundraising lens and helping bring mental health conversations into more spaces.
“I ended up as a board member to hopefully help the people that do the really difficult work. To support in our community and help them do their job the best that they can.”
With a background in public education, a role on the founding board of the Luna Child and Youth Advocacy Centre, and experience working with youth in hockey, Stacey is no stranger to community impact. Giving back has always been at the heart of what he does.
He’s also a partner at Precede, an occupational health company, bringing a health-focused lens to his work at DCC.
During his time at DCC, Stacey says he’s learned a lot, but it’s the listening and connection skills that stand out the most. He applies them not only in his business at Precede Occupational Health but also at home, supporting his family through life’s challenges.
“The tools I’ve learned here have made me a better boss, a better dad, and probably an all-around better human being.”
Stacey is passionate about mental health and wants to help reduce the stigma around seeking support. He believes in raising awareness and building a culture where mental wellness is something we care for every day.
“When we struggle, we need that resilience and that support to be able to make sure that our mental health is where it needs to be, just like we do with our physical health. Creating a culture where we understand what it is to be healthy both mentally and physically and combine the two so that we can be the best that we can be on a daily basis.”
We’re grateful for the insight, energy, and heart Stacey brings to the board. His commitment helps DCC continue connecting people to the support they need, when they need it.
