“This is our community and the people that are being supported are all of our neighbours. We’re not a huge charity that can make a big difference nationally, but we can make a big difference in our own community.”
– Bill Herron, William S. Herron Family Charitable Foundation
Since March 2020, we have all been living with the COVID-19 pandemic. It has created a lot of uncertainty and distress for our community, and our volunteers and staff who provide the mental health and crisis support have not been untouched. COVID-19 has changed our lives forever, so now more than ever, Distress Centre needs to be available 24/7 to support those struggling with their mental health, or who are in crisis.
Abiding by AHS restrictions, Distress Centre has a combination of highly trained volunteers and staff providing support in our contact centre as well as remotely. Going remote, we lost 100% of our volunteers and it has been a real challenge getting our numbers back up to where they need to be. It has also been a costly journey for Distress Centre, and since all of our services are free to anyone day or night, we need your support now more than ever.
