How Your Monthly Donation Makes A Difference

We know that donating is meaningful to you, and you want to take part in shaping Calgary’s communities in a positive and sustainable way. When you donate to Distress Centre on a monthly basis, you’re helping us provide mental health and wellness support to you, your family, and your neighbours whenever it is needed.

Becoming a monthly donor means you are creating an impact that generates meaningful difference throughout the year.

Your donations directly support the 144,000 connections Distress Centre responds to annually across Southern Alberta.

The Benefits of Giving Monthly

Monthly donations can make a significant impact over time. By setting up a recurring monthly donation, you are making a difference in the lives of Calgarians and Southern Albertans throughout the year.

At the same time, your donations will impact your taxes, as they may entitle you to a tax credit, depending on your annual taxable income.

For an annual taxable income of less than $246,752*:

  • The first $200 of all your charitable giving entitles you to a tax credit of up to 75% (60% Alberta tax credit and 15% federal tax credit)
  • Gifts on top of the first $200 entitles you to a 50% tax credit (21% Alberta tax credit and 29% federal tax credit)

If your annual taxable income is more than $246,752* you may be eligible for further tax credits. Please visit the CRA website and/or contact a financial advisor for more information.

*This amount is based on the 2024 Federal income tax rates.

Based on these rates, a $25 monthly contribution only costs you $8 after your $200 annual tax credit! Set up your monthly recurring donation today and join us in making a positive impact throughout our community.

Opportunities to Help

Our volunteer opportunities allow you to provide support in various ways, including over the phone and via chat, text, or email. We also provide extensive practical and ongoing training.

As Calgary’s only 24-hour crisis agency, we are often the first point of contact for those seeking help. Make a career out of making a difference!

Distress Centre is committed to furthering the field of social work, and we view practicum students as a great asset to our team.  Practicum opportunities exist year-round within the Crisis Line Program and Counselling Program, along with other opportunities.

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, Distress Centre Calgary would like to honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. Finally, we acknowledge all Nations – Indigenous and non – who live, work and play on this land, and who honour and celebrate this territory.
