Volunteer Spotlight: Kyra

April 22, 2025

Meet Kyra, a volunteer on our 24-Hour Crisis Line! After facing her own mental health challenges, Kyra was inspired to join our volunteer team seven months ago to ensure no one has to face their struggles alone.

“I have struggled with mental health myself, and I’m just really passionate about helping other people and making sure that they don’t go through any similar situation that I’ve been through.”

In just seven months on our crisis line, Kyra has already made a significant impact on the lives of many of our service users. Every crisis call is different, but what stands out the most to Kyra is the moments of transformation. They remind her of the importance of this work and the strength of the people who reach out for help.

“I think my favorites are the calls where, from the beginning to the end, you can really tell that you’ve made an impact and helped someone out of crisis.”

Kyra has been supporting our community with empathy and compassion, but the work she does not end on the lines. She uses the skills she’s learned from our comprehensive training and coaching in her personal relationships and career.

As a professional water polo player and coach to young athletes, learning how to be a good listener and effective communicator is critical to her being a great mentor and team player.

Her biggest takeaway from her time on the lines is how important empathy is in our day-to-day lives.

“I think the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that you truly never know what anyone’s been through or is going through. So being here has really expanded my little bubble of knowledge and helped me understand people more.”

Thank you, Kyra, for showing up with such genuine care and for making a difference in the lives of others. We’re so grateful to have you on our team!
