Distress Centre Calgary is here for you during life’s toughest moments. We provide immediate support to help-de-escalate crises and improve your situation, while guiding you towards long-term well-being. In 2024, we responded to 164,780 contact. Each contact represents a human connecting with another human to find help, hope, and the right next step.

Two of those humans were Alex and Sam (names changed for confidentiality), a parent and child who were displaced by the Jasper wildfires in the summer of 2024.

When the evacuation order lifted, Alex and Sam returned to discover their home had been destroyed. Overwhelmed and unsure of where to turn, they visited the 211 Alberta table at a temporary Welcome Centre. There, our team offered more than just practical information on resources like childcare — they provided emotional support, a listening ear, and even a moment of brightness for young Sam through a simple set of colouring supplies.

In times of disaster, connection matters more than ever. Alex and Sam’s story is just one example of how Distress Centre Calgary helped thousands find stability, comfort, and a path forward.

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, Distress Centre Calgary would like to honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government of the Métis Nation within Alberta Districts 5 and 6. Finally, we acknowledge all Nations – Indigenous and non – who live, work and play on this land, and who honour and celebrate this territory.
